Release Notes

Add-in for Visual Studio 2005 and 2008 which provides the IDE with a local history à la Eclipse.

What's new from previous version ?
  • Automated installer, supporting both VS2005 and VS2008
  • Automatic version check (can be disabled)
  • Now works well with multiple solutions in same directory
  • Supports well solutions renamed outside the IDE
  • Date format now uses the current culture settings
  • Tool window visibility remembered between Visual Studio sessions
  • More comparison tool templates
  • A few bug fixes

Upgrade notes:
  1. You won't loose any local history created with previous versions, but each .history folder will be renamed to the new format when the associated solution is opened for the first time.
  2. The configuration files are not compatible, so the VLH2005 configuration will be reset !

Automated installation:
  1. Download VLH2005-beta-3.0.0-setup.exe
  2. Launch the setup program and follow instructions. VS2008 and VS2005 are automatically detected and you can choose on which version(s) of Visual Studio you want to install the add-in.
  3. Restart Visual Studio
  4. Make the history window visible using the command bar under the Tools menu.
  5. Enjoy ;-)

Manual installation:
  1. Download VLH2005-beta-3.0.0-manual-install.zip
  2. Extract the VLH2005.AddIn and VLH2005.dll files in the Addins folder (create it if it doesn't exist) of your Visual Studio home folder (typically "My Documents\Visual Studio 2005\Addins" with VS2005, and "My Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Addins" for VS2008).
  3. Restart Visual Studio
  4. Make the history window visible using the command bar under the Tools menu.
  5. Enjoy ;-)

To uninstall:
  1. If you don't plan to reinstall VLH2005 later, delete the VLH2005 configuration file. Its location is displayed in the settings window of VLH2005.
  2. Uninstall from the Windows control panel or from the start menu folder created during installation.
  3. If you want to get rid of the history database, search for hidden folders whose name begins with ".VLH2005." and delete them.
